It is possible to see the Northern lights in Reykjavík if the conditions are right (not too cloudy, preferably not a full moon and enough aural activity) but it is always better to go a little outside the city limits.
Guests can join our so called "northern lights watch" list and we would pick the best night to go on the tour.
One recommended experience is at the Aurora Basecamp,, where we will be on one of the ceremony days!!
It is an ideal starting point for a Northern Light hunt on your own. Aurora Basecamp is a unique Northern Lights Observatory, offering guests the chance to experience a real-time, indoor simulation of the Northern Lights in a comfortable setting. From there, when the conditions are right, you can take the leap of faith out into the Icelandic night, to get breathtaking views and photos of the real thing! Their outdoor area is lit with open fire and benches where you can sit and wait for the Northern lights to appear if the luck is with us.
Here is the best website to watch for the Northern lights.
